AOL – TED Women, I’m Disappointed

So here I am, writing a last-minute idea for what I would love to present on a TED Women talk, for the AOL TED Women contest, my idea for the future.
I decided to use my 2022 text about a Flattring Future (in Swedish) and the basis for the idea, since it is something rooted deep in me, and it is something that I can, and love to talk about.

I’ve filled everything out, and it was time to read the rules and what not. I was already a little suspicious that there was no box to fill out which country you were from. So I read it, and come up with this:

1. Eligibility: The AOL & TEDWomen Big Idea Contest (the ”Contest”) is open only to legal residents of the 48 contiguous United States (including the District of Columbia) who are 18 years of age or older.

I realised that I would not be able to submit my application for the contest. Not a chance in hell for me to go to a TED Women in Washington DC. I would not be able to take one of the greatest steps in my own life with taking a chance on this competition.
This is what I had written.

To change the business model of today, where big companies hold copyrights for material made by artists, we need to look at it with new eyes. With a model that is about the love for sharing and showing appreciation the future will be built.
A future where we are more kind to Flattring people, the people behind the product. It is time to take a big step onto this.

I’m also well aware that I had not asked anyone of the Flattr-team, if it would be okay to submit to competition with the idea. For me it is an extension of theirs. A hope for what the future can become, thanks to it.

Open-source Arkitektur

Jag har börjat lyssna igenom TEDtalks på podcasts. De började släppa gamla TEDtalks i podcastformat rätt nyligen, och jag såg det som något smart att spendera min tid med medan jag åker spårvagnen till stan, då de brukar vara kring 15-20min, och det är hur lång tid det tar för mig in till centrala delarna av Göteborg, inklusive promenad. Här om dagen fastnade jag för en väldigt specifik talk. Jag vill nu berätta mer om den och sprida dess budskap.

I februari 2006 pratade Cameron Sinclair på TEDtalks om Open Source Arkitektur. (Orkar ni inte se hela kan ni hoppa till den sista delen, kommer upp när man håller pekaren över bilden)

Han börjar att berätta om att han var en av de får under sin utbildning som ville använda det på ett hjälpande sätt. En av de få som inte såg arkitektur som att skapa något unikt, sin egen pärla som ingen annan skådat något liknande och ingen skulle kunna få göra en kopia av.
Cameron själv ville något helt annat, han ville utnyttja möjligheter och förändra världen. Det har han gjort också.

Han pratar om hur viktigt det är med gräsrötter, att ge ett samhälle som tagit skada en chans att återbygga sig själva utefter sina egna behov. Tillsammans med andra världen över har han utvecklat en rörelse, Architecture for Humanity, där lokalavdelningar har utvecklat mer lokalt anpassade lösningar. Vad är det de utvecklar? Hållbara lösningar för både boende och samhällsviktiga byggnader, så som kliniker, skolor och fritidshus för samhället.

Vid 2006 så var de tusentals designers över hela världen som arbetade tillsammans på detta som en gräsrotsrörelse, men de var bara 3 personen som faktiskt jobbade med det. Jag har en känsla av att det har växt sedan dess.

Höjdpunkten i hans föreläsning är defintivt open-source byggnaden, som så fort den blivit färdigbyggd får kopieras och byggas var som helst utan kostnad för ritningarna. Architecture for Humanity har till och med hållt en tävling i att designa open source hus.
